Online guitar auction - 8th and 9th Dec.
Knowing that there are some posters on here that share my interest in electric guitars and associated stuff, I would like to point you towards a Gardiner Houlgate (UK) online auction taking place on the 8th and 9th December (link below).

Lots of interesting stuff over the two days, including a fair bit of kit previously owned and used by The Alarm if that is of interest. There are a few other artist-owned bits too.

I do have 20 or so lots in there myself, so please bid generously and often on anything that takes your fancy (and I might therefore benefit from). 😊

Eyethankyew!

Estimates for some of those guitars seem very low, but probably to attract buyers. Some nice guitars there

I think you're right. I have viewed these auctions in the past and generally buyers seem well informed on what they are looking at, and prices seem to end up more or less where you'd expect them to.

I think part of it is managing sellers' expectations as well. so people don't insist on reserves that are too optimistic?

Bungo- I’m curious. Why sell at auction like this rather than privately? Would you expect to see a bit more of a return? Also obvs which ones are yours?

Mad that there are some squiers and Yamaha Pacificas there. You’d have thought it wasn’t worth the seller’s or buyers bother.

Have you brought from one before? Very risky about buying a guitar sight unseen. Is there a quality guarantee given/are they all rigorously tested? (I might be interested in one of the telecasters)

You would probably get higher individual prices selling privately, but this way my plan is to offload a whole raft of stuff without the hassle of many separate individual sales. I think I am paying 12.5% plus VAT sale commission on the hammer price?

The descriptions are good. There is generally an accurate description of each aspect of each instrument or amp etc. I don't know but I would assume that there is NOT a 'return if dissatisfied' policy, unless something has been misrepresented in its description? I personally would be happy to buy from them.

Luke, the guy that runs the guitar auctions is very knowledgeable, and clearly wants everything sold to be honestly described so buyers keep coming back for the long-term success of the auctions.

Previously they had viewing days but I believe this has been temporarily stopped due to Covid?

Good luck if you bid!

There are some lovely guitars (especially Les Pauls) in there but I really have enough already (just sold a couple myself).
There is also some utter junk especially a Kay guitar that stood out. My first bass was a Kay and it the worst put together musical I have ever had the misfortune to play.

I've just bought three (THREE) Strats this year, so that's enough for me

Do you stick to Fender? I'm interested in both the PRS Silver Sky and the Blade RH4 at the mo, both of which are extremely Stratty.

Re: Online guitar auction - 8th and 9th Dec.

I have to be honest with you.....Strats are from my era... 1960's, especially Jimi Hendrix, so the three I have, relate to his "style" of guitars,
black body / white scratchplate / maple neck
olympic white body / white scratchpate / maple neck
sunburst body / mint green scratchplate / pau ferro neck (should be rosewood, but not available)

They all hang majestically on a wall in the lounge

Therefore, I could not tell you if they are better or worse or identical to any other make of guitar, I just love their style and sound

Don't own or play any guitar but if I could have a choice of having one it would be a 12 string Rickenbacker, just love the sound of them

If the Pau Ferro neck was from the time of the CITES ban, then this should no longer be applicable. Hopefully rosewood should now be available as it once was.

Guitars are all about what floats your particular boat. I was surprised that Mike Rutherford of Genesis is using some Squier strats on tour currently because those are what he really likes when he could have anything!

Each to their own.

Afraid not. I am selling a couple of fairly metal axes in there. There's a 'Tales From The Grave' LTD, a Sunburst Ibanez Destroyer and a Washburn A5V (which has seen better days to be honest).

I'm not selling my ESP MII 'Mummy' though (just like Kirk's).

That's probably my most 'metal' remaining guitar. :)

Bungo, does Hammett still have Peter Green's guitar?

He does. It's probably the guitar he uses the most now, certainly live.

I have to say, I think I preferred it in the hands of Gary Moore!
